Privacy Policy
Draft · Updated [DATE]
This Privacy Policy describes how [OPERATOR NAME] (“Pop Off,” “we,” “us” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information in connection with the Pop Off website and application available at playpopoff.vercel.app (the “Service”), and the choices available to you. By creating a profile or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you have any questions, please contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
Summary
This summary highlights key points of this Privacy Policy and does not replace the full text that follows. We do not request your email address, real name, telephone number, photograph or precise location. We do not display advertising, do not use third-party tracking or analytics technologies, and do not sell or rent personal information. Profiles are available only to individuals aged 13 or older. We use artificial intelligence services to screen usernames and crew names and to generate coaching notes on match reviews. A read-only progress page intended for a tutor exists only if you create a link to it, and you may disable that link at any time. You may request deletion of your profile by contacting us.
1Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information, either because you provide it to us or because it is generated by your use of the Service:
- Profile information. Your username; your password, which is stored solely in the form of a salted cryptographic hash that we are unable to reverse; and your age range, recorded as either 13 to 17 or 18 and older. We ask for your year of birth once, solely to determine your age range, and we do not retain the year itself.
- Gameplay and learning information. The answers you submit and the time taken on each question, scores, ratings and ranks, match history, daily challenge results, drills, level check results, review retries, and the coaching notes generated for your matches.
- Goals. If you choose to provide them, the number of questions you intend to answer each week, the date of your SAT examination, and your target score. Each of these is optional and may be cleared by you at any time.
- Tutor link information. If you create a tutor link (described in Section 5), the code that forms the link, the date on which it was created, the number of times it has been opened, and the time at which it was most recently opened.
- Question reports. If you report a question, the identity of the question, the reason you selected, and any note you choose to include.
- Character information. The appearance you select for your character and the items you unlock through play.
- Social information. Your friends; the crews, classes and schools you join and any names you give them; invitations and challenges you send or receive; the league in which you are placed; and, where applicable, the user whose invite link you used to create your profile.
- Activity information. The date on which you created your profile and the time at which you last used the Service. While the Service is open, it notifies our servers approximately once per minute so that your friends can see whether you are available.
- Information stored on your device. Your browser stores your sign-in session, a randomly generated guest identifier, and preferences such as sound and subject. We do not use cookies for advertising or analytics, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
- Technical information. Our hosting providers may automatically log technical information, such as IP addresses and browser type, in order to operate and secure the Service. We do not use this information to track you across services.
2Guest play
You may play an initial match before creating a profile. In that case, your browser generates a random secret, and we retain only a one-way cryptographic hash of it. A guest has no username of its own and no recorded age range. A guest that has played only against automated opponents and has been inactive for 30 days is deleted, together with its match records. Daily challenge results recorded for a guest are deleted after seven days unless they are saved to a profile.
3How we use information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- to provide and operate the Service, including matchmaking, scoring, ratings, leagues, leaderboards, friends and crews;
- to provide educational features, including match reviews, practice targeted at the questions you miss, and progress measured over time and against your goals;
- to protect the Service and its users, including by screening names and by limiting the rate at which any account may perform actions;
- to maintain and improve the quality of our questions, including by correcting or withdrawing questions that users report; and
- to comply with applicable law and to respond to lawful requests.
We do not use personal information for advertising, and we do not create profiles of you for the benefit of any third party.
4Artificial intelligence services
- Name screening. When you choose a username or name a crew, we transmit only that name to an artificial intelligence model that identifies crude or insulting names. Names about which the model is uncertain may be reviewed by a member of our team.
- Coaching. When you open a match review, we transmit the questions, your answers, your response times, your rating and your opponent's answers to an artificial intelligence model, which generates coaching notes. We do not transmit your username or your opponent's username.
- Both services are provided through OpenRouter, which forwards the request to the provider of the relevant model. Output generated by artificial intelligence may be inaccurate, and coaching notes should be treated as guidance rather than as authoritative answers.
5Information visible to other users and to people you choose
- Opponents. Any user you play against can see your username and character, and can see your answer to each question once that question is revealed.
- Friends and crewmates. In addition, your friends and the members of crews you belong to can see your rank, rating, weekly points, league placement, daily challenge streak and score, your record against them, and when you last used the Service.
- League members. Members of your league can see your username, character and weekly points. Users under 18 are never placed in a league with adults.
- Recipients of your invite link. Anyone with your invite link can see your username, your character and your score on that day's daily challenge. Applications that generate previews of links may also display this information.
- Recipients of a crew link. Anyone with a crew's link can see the crew's name, its number of members and its owner's username.
- Recipients of your tutor link. You may, at your option, create a link to a read-only page summarizing your progress, intended to be shared with a tutor. The page displays your username; when you last used the Service; your goals; the number of days on which, and questions with which, you practiced in the current week; and, for the preceding eight weeks, your percentage of correct answers by week and by question type, together with the types of mistake that most often affect your answers. The page does not display your age range, friends, crews, opponents or individual matches. Because the page can be opened without signing in, anyone to whom the link is given can view it. We instruct search engines not to index the page. Disabling the link causes it to stop working immediately, and a new link, if created, will use a new code.
The Service does not offer chat or a player search. Apart from the tutor link, and only while that link is enabled, no page containing your information is available without signing in. Question reports are reviewed only by us and are never shown to other users.
6Disclosure of information
We disclose personal information only to the service providers that help us operate the Service, and only to the extent necessary for them to do so:
- Convex, which provides our database and application servers;
- Vercel, which hosts the website; and
- OpenRouter and the model providers it uses, for name screening and coaching as described in Section 4.
We may also disclose information where required by law or legal process, where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of all or part of the Service, in which case this Privacy Policy will continue to apply to the information transferred. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information, as those terms are defined under applicable state privacy laws.
7Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Before a profile can be created, we ask for the user's year of birth. If the year provided indicates that the user may be under 13, no profile is created, and the browser is prevented from attempting again with a different year. If you believe that a child under 13 has created a profile, please contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL], and we will delete it.
For users aged 13 to 17, the Service offers no chat, places them only in leagues with other users in the same age range, permits friend requests after a match only between users in the same age range, and displays no advertising.
8Information for parents and guardians
A teen's profile consists of a username and password and does not include an email address or real name. Teens answer timed SAT-style questions against other users or automated opponents, participate in leagues with other teens, and may add friends only through an invite link or after a match. Crews, classes and schools may include adults, such as a teacher or tutor. A teen may create a read-only tutor link as described in Section 5; no such link exists unless the teen creates one, and the teen may disable it at any time in Settings. To review or delete your teen's information, or to have their tutor link disabled, please contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and provide their username.
9Data retention
We retain your profile, gameplay information, goals, tutor link information and question reports until you ask us to delete them, or until we delete your profile. Guest information is deleted as described in Section 2. Certain records may persist in our backups for up to [N] days after deletion.
10Your rights and choices
- You may change your username, set or clear your goals, and create or disable your tutor link in Settings.
- You may remove friends and leave crews at any time.
- You may request a copy of your information, or request that we delete it, by contacting us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law, such as the right to correct your information or to appeal a decision we make regarding a request. To exercise these rights, please contact us, and we will respond within the period required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
11Security
We store passwords only in the form of salted cryptographic hashes, limit repeated incorrect sign-in attempts, and limit the rate at which profiles may be created and invitations sent. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. We encourage you to use a password that you do not use for any other service.
12Storage location
Your information is stored in [COUNTRY/REGION] by our service providers.
13Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date shown at the top of this page. If we make a material change, we will notify you within the Service before the change takes effect.
14Contact us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact [OPERATOR NAME] at [CONTACT EMAIL], or by mail at [MAILING ADDRESS].
